Indigo Flight

An IndiGo flight bound for Varanasi on May 28th caused a brief scare at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport after a bomb threat was received early in the morning. The incident, thankfully, turned out to be a hoax, but it did disrupt travel plans for the 176 passengers and crew onboard.

What happened to the Indigo Flight

According to reports, the threat surfaced around 5:00 am when the pilot of IndiGo flight 6E2211 discovered a note in the aeroplane lavatory. The note scribbled on a piece of paper, reportedly contained a threatening message alluding to a bomb onboard at a specific time (around 5:30 am).

Following standard protocol, the pilot immediately informed the control room, triggering a swift response from airport security. As a precautionary measure, all passengers and crew were evacuated from the aircraft using the emergency exits. This ensured their safety while authorities conducted a thorough inspection of the Indigo flight.

An IndiGo spokesperson confirmed that all necessary protocols were followed. The spokesperson added that the aircraft was moved to a designated isolation bay, away from other planes and airport operations, to facilitate a comprehensive search by security personnel.

The search, which involved trained bomb disposal squads and other security measures, took some time but ultimately yielded no evidence of any explosives or suspicious items. With the threat confirmed as a hoax, authorities were able to clear the Indigo flight.

While the investigation into the source of the bomb threat continues, the airline has arranged for the affected passengers to be flown to Varanasi on a different aircraft. This replacement flight is scheduled to depart at 11:00 am, causing some delay but ensuring the passengers reach their destination.

This incident highlights the vigilance of airport security personnel and the importance of following established protocols in such situations. While hoaxes can be disruptive, the swift response by all parties ensured the safety of everyone involved.
