A series of tragic fires occurred in India over the weekend, resulting in multiple casualties. In Rajkot, Gujarat, a two-storey recreational facility, TRP Game Zone, caught fire, claiming the lives of at least 27 people, including nine children.
The facility had been operating without the necessary municipal license and fire NOC. Ten firefighters extinguished the flames after nearly an hour, and 12 ambulances transported victims to nearby hospitals. Thick plumes of smoke were visible for several km, leading to chaos.”The bodies were completely charred and it was difficult to identify them.”Vinayak Patel,ACP of Rajkot Said.
The operator of the game zone has been detained for questioning.
Fires other than Rajkot
Meanwhile, in Delhi, a fire broke out at a children’s hospital in Vivek Vihar, leading to the deaths of seven newborns. The Delhi Fire Services said it received a call about a fire at 11.32 pm at a baby care centre in the Vivek Vihar area in East Delhi, following which as many as 16 fire tenders were rushed to the site.
Officials said that 12 newborns were rescued from the first floor of the building but seven died while getting treatment at the hospital. Rescue operation is still underway.
The causes of the fires are under investigation, and authorities have detained individuals for questioning.
President Droupadi Murmu, PM Modi, and other leaders expressed their grief and offered condolences for the incidents.
These incidents highlight the importance of adhering to safety regulations and conducting thorough inspections to prevent such tragedies.
