Pune Porsche Horror
Road accidents are a major cause of death in India. Most of them are caused by negligence on the part of the drivers. While all such cases are tragic, some raise serious questions about the law and order of the land and the execution of road safety in India.
One such case which shocked the country is the Pune Porsche Crash which claimed the life of two young engineers.
The Crash took place in Pune where Two IT professionals died after their motorcycle was hit by a speeding Porsche allegedly driven by the minor in the early hours of May 19. The police claim the teenager was drunk driving the Porsche at the time of the accident.
In a case of great mismanagement of justice, the teenager was initially granted bail by the Juvenile Justice Board, which also asked him to write an essay on road accidents. Still, following outrage over the lenient treatment and a review application by the police, he was sent to an observation home till June 5.
The father of the teen, a realtor who gave away an expensive vehicle such as the Porsche to a minor and his grandfather have also been detained in connection with the case.
As per the latest developments, Two doctors of Sassoon General Hospital in Pune were arrested on the charge of manipulation of the blood sample of the teen Porsche driver. Dr Ajay Taware, head of the forensics department at Sassoon Hospital in Pune, and Dr Shrihari Harnor, chief medical officer at Sassoon, were arrested for alleged manipulation of blood reports and tampering with the evidence in the case after being lured with monetary offers.
“On May 19, around 11 am, the blood sample which was taken at Sassoon Hospital in Pune was thrown in a dustbin of the hospital, and the blood sample of another person was taken and sent to the forensic lab… CMO Srihari Harnor replaced this blood sample.
During the investigation, we found Srihari Harnor replaced this on the instructions of the HOD forensic medicine department of Sassoon, Ajay Tawre,” Amitesh Kumar said at a press conference.
Other details coming forward are also that the mother of the teen tried to persuade the driver to take the blame on himself in return for monetary benefits.
In this case, many elements suggest that the laws need to be executed properly. Had they been properly executed, the teen could not have driven drunk and two precious lives could have been saved. Also, the sheer callousness of the Juvenile Justice Board should be investigated and the motive behind the careless sentence to such serious charges should be determined.
The case has sent a wave of shock and angst in the country with many demanding strict action against the culprit, and all those involved. Many people want him to be tried as an adult and be given appropriate punishment to bring the two victims to justice.
The case is currently being probed by the crime branch.
